The live action series Dororo was recently released on DVD and is based on the hit manga series from the 1960s by Osamu Tezuka. It was a massive success at the Japanese box office and the new DVD release has a lot of special features as well as an extra featurette "Road to Dororo".

Osamu Tezuka is the creator of other hits such as Astro Boy and after a few years, Dororo finally got the big screen attention it deserved. The stars of the movie include Kou Shibasaki and Satoshi Tsumabuki, who recently starred in the Fast and the Furious; Tokyo Drift. The DVD is an action packed adventure from the get go and with Siu-Tung Ching in charge of the choreography, there are some pretty incredible fight scenes. Siu-Tung Ching was also involved in House of Flying Daggers; another big hit. This film is certainly going to be a hit with manga fans all over the world and in Japan it's spent an amazing six consecutive weeks at the top of the box office charts. The story is an action tale with a bit of comedy thrown in here and there and it's a mix of everything really from action to comedy. Starting early in the story, you learn that Daigo Kagemitsu makes a deal with a group of 48 demons to sell the body parts of his unborn child in exchange for the power to rule the world. When the child is eventually born, it turns out the deal was for real and the deformed child is almost killed by Daigo for being inadequate. Fortunately, his wife persuades him to let the child live and they set the boy in a basket to float down the river.

Later on a mystical physician discovers the basket and the child and decides to raise him as his own and names him Hyakkimaru. He creates prosthetic limbs and organs for the boy and we follow the child as he grows up. Once the boy is at a certain age, the story follows his quest to find the demons that made the deal with his birth father so that he can regain his full human body.

The DVD is rated certificate 15 and was released on the 7th of September 2009 by MVM. You should be able to pick the DVD up for about 15.99 at the moment and this will include the special features such as a trailer gallery, deleted scenes and "Road to Dororo" featurette.

Dororo is a fun and action packed movie that's well worth watching. Full of energy, entertainment and a bit of comedy here and there it's a movie that you just shouldn't miss if you're an anime or manga fan! - 29957
