Under Cabinet Lighting And Your Kitchen

By Tom Sanderrs

A great home improvement is the use of under cabinet lighting as you have seen on home shows. By installing this simple light you can have great effects and not only under cabinets but it can be used wherever you might want to add these lighting effects.

In some cases you will even be able to choose between different colors, but this option will depend upon which kind of light you have chosen. Especially with LED lighting you will have choices for various colors and these can be used to highlight certain features of your home which are unique or to just create a certain atmosphere. The only thing you have to watch out for is that you don?t mix brands of lighting when working on a single room or project. This is because every brand has its own unique shade of color, even if you are dealing only with something simple like black or white. Having different shades may ruin the desired effect.

More than just countertops can be illuminated in a kitchen with under cabinet lighting. It can also be used to accentuate a tiled back splash with puck or recessed swivel lighting which can be installed. The lights can be angled towards to the wall and you will have an immediate improvement in the appearance.

Does your kitchen look and feel small? If there is room between the cabinets and ceiling, add lighting strips to the tops of cabinets. It tricks the eye into believing the ceiling is higher, instantly making the room appear larger. If you are selling your home, this designer trick can be what cinches the sale for you.

If you have had problems finding things in cabinets, because it was too dark in the back, then you can solve this problem by adding this type of lighting. This way you can make use of deep cabinets which offer much more storage space, because you will be able to see everything that is in them with the extra light.

Are you tired of only being able to see the contents of your curio or china cabinet during the day? While you can purchase lighted cabinets, these often cost a lot more than unlighted ones. A better option is to attach LED strips to the undersides of shelves. Strips can also be installed at the back or sides of the cabinet to provide additional lighting.

If you have an entertainment center where you like to display photos and knick knacks on the shelves and perhaps on top of the entertainment center then you can make them all stand out with the placement of a few swivel lights or strip lighting. The strip one can be placed on top or if you want a more dramatic look place swivel lights on the top and then you can slide them forward. You can then angle back to display your objects.

As you can see it is not necessary to be a professional designer to add special little touches to your home but with a few strategic lighting placements it can look like you are. Under cabinet lighting can be used in several places around the home where it can give that special effect. - 29957
