Which is the Best Cat Litter Mat

By Angela Suarez

You know that you have found a good litter mat when your cat actually uses it, because if he does not.. then what is the point?

You have seen it before, again and again; your little feline is a big time digger. In fact, he seems to think he can make it to the other side of the globe. Where is he trying to go?

What happens is that bits of that annoying litter eventually get sprinkled all over the floor and carpet of your home... even more so with the fine type of litters like clays.

So you whip out your trusty cleaning tools to pick up the mess, only to find that when you come back home the pile of scattered litter is there.. .yet again. This is a bit annoying to say the least.

Our feline friends just naturally dig and cover up their excrement... some with more zeal than others.

The solution to the problem is to get a cat litter mat, but not just any old cheap mat, a mat that your cat will actually use.

There are two main types of cat litter mats; one is the type with raised ridges on it. You will know when you have found it because when you press on it, it feels a little funny on the palm of your hand.

The softer mat (without bumps/ridges) is like a regular mat that you would not mind walking on without shoes or socks. The second type with ridges may be one that your cat might not like.

Some cats, (maybe even yours) may not like the feeling of the texture on his paws.

If it feels funny to you then guess what? Your picky cat will have none of that!

Your cat's paw pads (like your feet) are sensitive too. If he does not like it, he may even try to set an Olympic long distance jumping record just to bypass the darn thing. This will get even more litter around the house.

This is pretty aggravating.

This is not exactly what you had in mind when you purchased the mat did you? Luckily, not all cats are picky like this and will use the mat without problems. Hopefully your cat is one of those felines that does not care.

However, if you discover that you still have litter spread all over your house then check your litter mat. It may just be the type he does not like.

Give one of the softer mats a try (non textured). If you can imagine walking over it barefoot then chances are your cat will use it as well. - 29957
