By Arthor Ruiz

All air-con units have drain pipes to get rid of any condensation from the system. If the drain pipe is blocked, it may lead to the system to break down. So what happened if the drain pipes of your air conditioning unit get blocked? Don't be disturbed. In this article, I'm going to share with you three tips to fix blocked air conditioning drain pipes.

When the drain pipes get blocked, your aircon unit will leak water either down the wall or from the ceiling. If the pipes remain unblocked for months, the unit may break down sometime. There are a few maintenance that you can do on your own to make sure that the pipes are clear and here they're :

1. Use soapy water to check the drain pipes. Firstly , switch off the power of your air-con unit. Then, take away the drain tray beneath the air conditioner. Decant the soapy water into the tray and the water should rush to one end where it flows down a pipe. The water will flow out of the pipes and out of your home. You must get someone to stay outside your house and watch the flow of the water. Check if the water runs out smoothly. If not, it is a good sign that the drain pipes are blocked.

2. Next, look for obstructions in the pipe. Things like sticks and insects can obstruct the pipe and cause blockages. It is common for insects to crawl up drains from outside and may make nests within. So use a long flexible strap to clear the nests and webs so as to remove all the obstructions.

3. Check for mold. Mold can simply grow in your drain pipe and cause blockage. To remove mold, use water with bleach solution and pour it down the drain.

These three straightforward tips will help you to fix blocked air-con drain pipes. Working on your air conditioner is vital. Regular maintenance stops your system from breaking down and also helps you to save electricity bill. - 29957
